Abstract

Acquired von Willebrand syndrome (AVWS) is a bleeding disorder caused by acquired abnormalities in von Willebrand factor. It occurs in association with several malignant diseases as well as cardiovascular conditions. We present here the case of a woman without any family history of bleeding disorders, who presented with recurrent epistaxis from AVWS in the context of very high platelet count secondary to chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). Her bleeding resolved with treatment of her underlying CML.
